Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal Reviews

Really pleasant place!
This place was spotless. The folks were always courteous and helpful. We were always inquired if we needed anything or if everything was alright. Nobody ever seemed impatient with us. The swimming pool area is wonderful and was never jam-packed.

Spotless hotel
We're often tourists and must say this resort was spotless, the landscaping was spotless, the meals were excellent. Many suite near the ocean, other than the weeds near the ocean, which the resort tried in vain to collect daily, it was an awesome hotel. And oh oceanfront suite, you can not go wrong, block# 66. We saw the chicago show, quite impressed. The landscaping include 4 resorts, Akumal, Sian khan, Tulum and Coba. Akumal is nearest to the shore (premium price), Sian khan is on the country club, (top notch), Tulum is ocean front although a bit older and a little bit further and Coba is in between Akumal and Sian khan, which more than likely has the greatest pricing. The bus service to go from resort to resort (restaurant to restaurant) is amazing and you see one every 10 minutes. Additionally there is a Hacienda, an open Air place where you enter through a front door there and do your shopping. Excellent deals, a big stage where amusement happens including a discotheque and bars. One bar there broadcasts the hockey game of your selection, and you can order a poutine, later discovered the owner is Canadian, figures. This resort is about 1 hour 15 from the Cancun airport on a great day. Many restaurants to pick from however suggest booking as promptly as you arrive. We reserved the 2nd day there and only late supper times were available. 1 thing that irritated me a little bit was restaurants weren't fully full upon arrival however earlier times weren't available allthough we arrived early. I suspect the number of folks working in the restaurants have something to do with it. This is the only unfavourable thing I must say, loved our time!

Amazing holtel for an excellent vacation
Agree with other testimonials that it isn't quite Luxury or 5*however awesome 4*and the personnel more than make up for this. Resort, pool and shore never seemed to be busy as always a lot of loungers and shades because of the exclusitivity of Akumal. Cuisine in main cafeteria had an excellent variety of meats, fish and seafood. Always lots to pick from and desserts absolutely amazing! Free wireless internet in main main foyer or you could pay extra for in suite and so on. All personnel wereamazing-all very courteous and made you feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. Great selection of al a carte restaurants, finest to review on line upfront so can book which ones you want as promptly as you arrive. Actually liked and will certainly book to return next year.

Charming vacation however not quite 5*
Stayed here 8th April- 22nd April 2015 with my parents (all adults). Flew with thomson and were thrilled with the dreamliner and had an excellent plane trip. Cancun airport was wild and transportation to hotel was okay. On arrival, check in was efficient and our cases were taken to the suite. We had 2 suites in building 61 that were connecting. Suites: both suites were charming, pleasant large pleasant Bed, hot powerful shower, refridgerator that was replenished everyday, television with a ton of English talking programmes and a decent size patio. Suites were equipped with air conditioning, roof fan and a coffee maker. Only con to the suite was they did once in a while odour a little moist and the walls were quite thin. We never met our attendant which did not bother us however it was publicized. The resort personnel do knock on your door a few times when your having that fast sleep after a day in the sunshine with more toiletries, chocolates and checking if your alright which after a while did get a little bothersome however I guess it is all part of their service. Landscaping: these were kept in pristine state and they were always watering the grass and plants and looking after the resort. Many fauna throughout the resort too. Personnel: we discovered the personnel to be courteous and smiley however I do have to agree with a previous reviewer that some Americans/Canadians do get a faster service Due to their leaving gratuities which is not an ordinary thing in our culture so this irritated us. We tip for a great service and not for each and every thing. Cuisine: we liked that we could use the other resort amenities and eat in their restaurants. We really liked the Akumal cafeteria found their was a lot of selection, hot cuisine but didn't think it was at a 5 star quality. We had a bite at the Coba cafeteria and it was really busy in there however we really liked the cuisine. During our time we used the following specialty restaurants: dolce vita, mikado, Tequila, Gran Tortuga & arlequin. The mikado was our favorite and we really liked the cuisine and the whole experience there. We discovered the service in the Tortuga was dreadful, really sluggish and disrespectful personnel - we really liked the cuisine but the service ruined it for us. Dolce vita, Tequila & arlequin were alright too. We ate in the refreshment cafe most days for lunch which had a differed selection. Bars/server service: lots of bars to pick from and drinks that were made were tasty. Server service was erratic and they appeared to only service certain parties, again something that did not bother us however was publicized. Pools: we used both pools and found there was always a lot of loungers with great shade. The activities pool appeared to be excellent for children as there was always something going on and the amusement group worked diligently. Adults could join in with things too. Shore: we used the shore most days as the wind was awesome. Towards the end of our stay we saw the kelp was getting worse but the personnel really do their best to clear it. Our favorite spot was at the top by the seafood restaurant. Representative: nicola was the thomson/first selection representative and was courteous and really supportive. We reserved xel ha & Coco bongos with her and enjoyed these tours. Amusement: we went to the Hacienda and only saw the Lion king which was excellent and used the main TV bar. Not included in your all-inclusive but the Corona bar was excellent - great prices and they show the sport there too. Wireless internet: not essential to everybody but the wireless internet is free in the main foyer area. We paid for it as needed it for business reasons and this was 64US D for 30 days or 49US D for 7 days. No 14 day choice. As a whole: we really liked the vacation, had awesome climate and truly liked ourselves. We do believe the cuisine could have been better to be more of a 5*standard. The setting was excellent and we liked that we could use other amenities. We'd go to Mexico however more than likely try a different resort.

Top notch value and fun for all
Newly got back from a week with 7 grade 12 lads and some parents from b. P. Akumal. Everything met all standards wanted. From setting, to lodging, to cuisine and service. Only heartbreak: completely falsely publicized as limitless Golf as they charge $100US D per person for cart rental which is really a disappointment as nobody was out playing the course, and this was college week-busy months!

Akumal hotel Mar 16-23
Pleasant hotel cuisine and service were excellent -suite was spotless and well taken care of. Climate was awesome. Shore area was the only let down. Many weeds and if you prefer to swim water is only waste high in most areas. Personnel that Drive the trolleys around are really helpful and courteous, as was all the personnel we dealt with. Had a blowdryer problem in the suite and the man was there within 5 min to repair it! Cafeteria was excellent at the Akumal hotel many choices and not packed always many cuisine. We did the brazilian restaurant which was excellent -the seafood place was average And the it alien was excellent. If you need Access to wireless internet it's free in the main foyer and really simple to connect. If you need paid wireless internet it's 49 US for 7 days and I could Access it anywhere throughout the resort incl the shore area even when we went to Tulum and Coba to visit I had Access.

Excellent hotel!
What an excellent hotel! From the attentiveness of all personnel, the sanitation of our suite, the professional quality of the nightly performances (that circus performance is a must see! ), the awesome cuisine at the cafeteria restaurant, the quality of cuisine at the specialty restaurants (have the lamb at the international restaurant - tasty) Simple to get seats around the swimming pool, awesome drink service by the swimming pool. For those that whine about the air conditioning in their suite? Pick up how to use it correctly and it works perfectly! You can not set it at 10 and anticipate it to work - be reasonable. We set ours at 22 and it worked perfectly. Too cool of a location & everything freezes up - logically.

A charming vacation. However not "Luxury"
We travelled in April 2015 in a company of 2 elders, 3 adults, and 2 young kids. As a whole our vacation was marvelous - sunny hot climate, excellent times near the ocean, and a carefree week together. First the pluses! The hotel is a wonderful, big property with excellently tended landscaping and charming gathering areas. The hotel was busy (college week) however never felt overcrowded or hectic. I was genuinely amazed at how roomy and calmed everything felt, even at this Peak Travel time. We always found enough recliners and tiki huts near the ocean, at any time we arrived, and not often waited a minute at the bars and restaurants. We did not swim in the swimming pools as we all favour the shore, however did take the trolley to the Coba area one time for the children to play at the water Park. They were eager to explore it for an hour, however ultimately favoured the sand and sea. The cuisine and drink choices were ample and we were all really pleased with the cafeterias. Try the doughnuts! For specialty dining, we ate at gourmet arlequin (so-so), the seafood resto frutos del Mar (great), and the mediterranean spot dolce vita (awesome, and finest service! ) the main idea I could make to take things up a Notch is to offer shore service of platter beverages, and to set up an easy lunch barbecue closer to the shore as the refreshment cafe is mostly far from the main shore area. These are two features we have enjoyed at other hotels that would fit with the idea of "Luxury" service. The personnel are awesome. Everybody we came across was courteous and supportive and made us feel really welcome. Our children did not partake in the children playground area however liked dancing with the entertainers at the nightly mini-dance club. Thanks, group! A mixed review for the shore: the Akumal area of this hotel has the better shore, in comparison to the Tulum side. If you are seeking a wide expanse of uninterrupted shore, but, this isn't your hotel. The oceanfront is a stretch of rocky Coral that is wonderful to look at however not really accessible in pieces. There are two shallow Sandy coves that perfectly suited our needs with 2 small kids (safe and fun for them) however May not be what adults want. There was a thick pileup of kelp on the shore daily and not enough personnel to get rid of it. Our children either just walked through the kelp or entered the water through the little dock by the breakwater. The entryway to the Bay was a little rocky however we were okay without water footware. The main thing that didn't Live up to anticipations, but, were the resort suites. The suites at Akumal aren't high-end. Our company reserved two suites, in bungalows 53 and 80. The design is exhausted in comparison to other spots we have stayed - many scrapes, marks, dents, and faded walls and bedding. The beds felt saggy. Our door handle was snapped Half off, leaving a jagged edge (which thankfully was repaired as promptly as we told the reception). The air conditioning is weaker than other spots we have stayed, so the suites felt moist all week, which meant they never felt spotless. The housekeeping staff were as comprehensive as they could be, even switching out towels that we intended to re-use, but the maintenance of the suite and design is missing. Even though we did not spend much time in the suites, our rest could've been better in a fresher suite with a firmer Bed. Supervisor needs to re-invest in the upkeep of the suites if they wish to advertise as a Luxury hotel.

Charming however beware of timeshare!
Resort was spotless and contemporary with comfortable suites, excellent pool amenities including whirlpool areas so sit around in. Bars were well filled and the personnel were courteous and courteous. As this is part of a large chain close by, we were also able to use the amenities of the Tulum and the Coba, Via the little golf cart shuttles or the nightly 'fun shuttle', which stops at the resorts before the short trip into community and the markets. This is a pleasant touch, as you get to eat and sunbathe in different resorts any time you lavish - the staff attention is the same, however now and again the meals are a tiny different, excellent for when you lavish a change. Not that there is anything incorrect with the cuisine, as it's great and differed. What really lets this resort down is the timeshare terrorists! All over you go in the reception, you appear to get bothered by these folks and one time they have their claws into you, it's challenging to escape. We went along to one of their 'presentations' out of interest and it was a Real eye opener. While we were there, a bell was rung and glasses of sparkling wine was presented to some furtunate 'buyers', as they were the 96th to buy - which was strange, as our companions went along to another meeting several days later and the 96th timeshare was just being sold! I'd conceive there were a ton of folks who felt pressurised to sign on the dotted line - often out of sheer exhaustion, as they keep you in there for hours. In all, it's a charming resort, but the property is so large, you don't really get to meet anybody new and that is a part of the vacation experience.
